I never thought about ice cube trays until we moved to a new apartment and there weren't any in the freezer. There's usually an ice machine or regular ice cube trays, so I never really thought about it until I had to buy new ones myself. I'm the kind of person who likes to research things before buying, and I want to get the best value for money considering functionality, price, and other factors. Yes, it's quite expensive for ice cube trays. I mean, I never thought I'd spend $20 on ice buckets. I recommend 2, 1 tray is not enough, you will keep filling and waiting. 2 is more functional. I never thought about designing ice cube molds until I got this thing. The shape of the cubes makes them easier to slide out. You press one end of an ice cube and it slides out, awesome! It is difficult to get out of square or rectangular cubes. I hate ice cubes that smell, they can make your drink taste weird. This problem is solved by a lid, who needs dirty ice cubes? It is easy to wash and dishwasher safe. I put mine on the top shelf and that's it. Although it's more than I was going to pay for the ice trays, it was worth it.
