Review on 🌱 Steadfast Bedding Digging Planting by Paul Dobson

Obviously, carbon steel is not suitable for clay soils.

This is my second attempt at using these hand drills. This product featured excellent reinforced steel, so I expected it to perform better than my previous purchase. We have hard clay soil in our front and back yards which makes it difficult to grow anything. We've been trying to change floors for a few years now and have made progress, but wading through the floor was an excruciating chore and my back ached. The previous augers I've bought looked solid and were a good size and both broke after a few days of use. So I saw them and decided to try them as they were "excellent" and had a lot of good reviews. Apparently nobody else has such a loamy soil like me. First, this snail is very small compared to previous snails I've had. But I figured if it's the best quality then size doesn't matter. Second, having just attached this drill bit to my drill bit, I noticed that the shank was already slightly bent. This, of course, gave us the signal that it wasn't very good for drilling holes. And yes, within 30 minutes of working with this drill, as a connection point with my drill, the steel twisted instantly. I sighed, but not to despair, I saw that I could easily attach the drill to the short hole at the back of the drill shaft and I would just fix it. No, maybe after 5 minutes the drill head of the shaft twisted and got stuck in the ground. I had to dig it up with a shovel. I've included pictures to show you how tight the shaft is. only clay soil. Extremely disappointed and this "excellent" quality was nothing like it. I return it and they can have a good look at the parts. Perhaps their "engineers" should consider torque drag. I added a box picture where you can read how to deal with clay soil. I did just that, and you can clearly see what was done to this thing in just 30 minutes, sometimes with brief rest periods. The firing of at least the other snails lasted a few days each. Carbon steel design fails BIG here. Of course, it's usually crashed into the ground, but that's a very weak excuse for the drill.

Pros
