Review on Dorman 626 229 HVAC Heater Assembly by Pushkraj Barton

Great part, no Ford tool required but you will have to make your own.

I have installed many of these and they have all worked great, no customer complaints. Distance. It's more than likely the original part snapped at the base of the air intake or at the elbow, either way I've always removed them. No need to try to get it out, never works, cut the pipe at the base of the inlet (leave about a quarter of an inch up), then start (with a small tap) banging one side, and move then completely opposite side of the pipe and do the same, from here I weld the two stamped sides together, rotate the air intake and stamp it if you don't have a welder after you stamp the two sides, WD-40 or PB it and let it dry a bit. After some time turn the air intake over and tap it out, most of the time this works fine, some can be very rusty, in which case the help of a dremel will be needed. , be very patient and chisel a line up and down the tube and try to rub the tube down to the inlet. We just want to sand enough of the tube to loosen it, then re-pierce the ends and repeat. Installation. Take the new pipe you just bought to your local hardware store and get some 3/4 copper pipe (as in the first picture this was 2 feet long, you can cut it shorter if you want but don't have to) . Coppercap and find some small trucks. Cut a window in the copper pipe (see first picture) so that the heater hose pipe (tight) fits up to the corrugated part of the pipe (see picture 2). Vise to hold the base in place and then use the copper cap and place it on the copper pipe and use the rubber mallet/deathblow to drive it in. Note that when retracting (this only applies if the tube was originally broken and you didn't know which way it was facing) look at the inlet from the back ((firewall side)) and orient the top of the tube to the right, then rotate it 15-20 degrees away from you. Hammer it in until it reaches the wavy part and you're done.
