Review on πŸ“± Symcode Omnidirectional Hands-Free USB Barcode Reader Scanner: Mobile Payment & Computer Screen Scan, Excellent 2D Scanning by Shane Hartford

Cheap and works well. You may need to search the internet for more information.

The barcode reader arrived quickly and works quite well. Sometimes it takes a bit of repositioning before the scanned image is accepted (as you usually see with scanners in stores). It feels quite comfortable in the hand and is light enough, although I don't use it all the time. A folded sheet of paper to use as an instruction manual is extremely minimal, but sufficient. It mainly consists of barcodes that you can scan to set up the reader (e.g. do you want scans to be returned with a carriage return or line feed, do you want the scanner to beep or not, scan continuously or only when the trigger is pressed, etc.) . .) There are advanced settings, but there is no explanation of what they do or why they might be needed. You may need to consult your application software to determine what settings you need for your scanner. I found other helpful information by searching the web as many of these scanners have the same internals. It scans all types of barcodes. Labels I've tried (including ones I've created with online barcode generators and printed with a laser printer). As with computers, the scanner looks like a keyboard and generates codes by simulating keystrokes. This means you can scan barcodes into any text file or application that accepts text.

Cons
  • so far so good
