Review on πŸ’» Dell U3818DW QHD Ultrawide Gaming Monitor with LED Lit Screen, 3840X1600P Resolution by Kody Hernandez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great contrast, slight color differences, mediocre software

Each monitor is individually calibrated at the factory. The monitor ships with a printout of this result. However, mine is a little bluer on the sides. I tried looking around from different angles to see if that was the cause, but it wasn't. The colors on this monitor are very good. I am satisfied with using it for professional work. The brightness level will throw you out of the room. In my room with windows on a bright, sunny day, I set the monitor to around 60% and it's bright enough. The monitor maintains excellent contrast even at brighter levels. I've used all connectivity options with no issues, including USB-C, DisplayPort, and HDMI. I can easily switch between a Mac Mini and a docked Windows 10 laptop. Switching USB devices is not as good as advertised. Instead of the monitor emulating a keyboard/mouse to allow for quick switching, this is equivalent to unplugging the hub and plugging it into the nearest host, which takes a few seconds to respond when inputs are switched. Sometimes the built-in USB hub just fails for some reason, even if only a keyboard and mouse are connected. Toggling back and forth usually fixes the problem. The documentation says you can connect a Bluetooth mouse to the monitor, but that's not the case. TRUE. They mean you can plug a USB stick into a USB port. The software that came with the monitor is not very good. It has a clunky user interface. KVM hotkeys for switching inputs are not executed on the monitor but managed by the software. So if you want to switch between Linux or OS X devices, you can't do it with a hotkey. Perhaps the manufacturer could just document the log so we can create our own software to control this monitor.
