Surprising and disappointing

I've been a carpenter for 25 years now, I'm pretty good with tools. . My bowl has never been so sharp. The platform method which should be pretty easy doesn't work at all, I could never get the platform to stay in place. Even when I tightened the handle very hard, the slightest pressure on the platform moved.
