I had an old version of this sharpener and it worked great although the long point was never quite sharp it was easy to finish sharpening it blocking just like that, like sharpening a pencil with a knife. This new one sharpens the pencil to a long point BUT it only works with half the pencils I've tried. Perhaps the thickness/hardness of the wood used plays a role? And the thickness/hardness of the lead. When not working, it just sands and sands lightly without removing much material, and then eventually stops without sharpening the pencil lead. Standard thickness Didn't work or have problem with Fabercastel watercolor pencils, Caran d'Ache Museum Aquarell, Caran d'Ache Brilliance, Derwent Inktense, Derwent Drawing, Generals Kimberly 9xxb, Faber Castel 9000 Jumbo, Conte pencils
