In my opinion this electric sharpener works faster and better than long tipped manual sharpeners for hard graphite pencils. The long tip gives me plenty of room to use the side of the pencil to cover more area in less time with smoother strokes. The extra long tip will last much longer than the standard tip if you don't put too much strain on it. Definitely not for soft wax or oil pencils. I use other sharpeners to get good points.

I bought this sharpener to use with art pencils (PrismaColor, Faber-Castell etc) and the experience was disappointing to say the least. Problems I encountered - sharpener took a long time to charge - sharpener was grinding wood into chunks - could never get a sharp point - line kept breaking - when you want to dump the shavings only the front part comes off so it's a bit messy dispose. I had an old version of this sharpener and it worked great although the long point was never quite sharp it was easy to finish sharpening it blocking just like that, like sharpening a pencil with a knife. This new one sharpens the pencil to a long point BUT it only works with half the pencils I've tried. Perhaps the thickness/hardness of the wood used plays a role? I was very happy with this sharpener. I use a different brand of electric sharpener but I was unhappy with how it handled my charcoal pencils. I inspected it, loaded it and added the old Ticonderoga I had. "God!" I thought he ate the pencil up to the tip!
