Poor quality, draining battery

I needed an HDMI dock to connect my Surface Pro 7 to an external monitor, but was disappointed. USB port. Battery Drain - Even if I close the laptop and unplug the HDMI cable from a fully charged laptop, the battery drains and the laptop gets hot.
