This size barely overhangs the edge of my table but I have used it as a table stand and will cover it with a fabric tablecloth. The vinyl is nice and thick with a flat pattern, but the felt backing is flimsy. Although the felt is thin I expect it to protect my desk from heat damage as the vinyl is quite durable and I'll update this review if that proves not to be the case. There were creases when I took them out of the box, but they are almost invisible under the tablecloth. I secured the corners to keep it from slipping and that's how it lays flat. The thickness of the vinyl makes me think it will work just fine, but I use coasters for very hot pans.
