Review on Zip Hinge Downspout Extension Universal by Arunprasath Elliott

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great idea but takes hours not minutes

I am usually very good at learning things but it seemed so simple and obvious that it was an elbow with a hinged 'thing' that you were using a low point and an extended gutter connect from the house. NO. It's just "gear" to MAKE an articulated knee. So add a few hours to the home business to get new elbows and a longer spout. Had to get a miter saw, cut the length and then cut at a 45 degree angle (use the correct blade in the saw). First I tried to crack the saw. Forget it! Even after using a miter saw, you still need metal shears (aka plane shears) to get to those pesky corners for full contact. (DON'T expect to just cut through with scissors and you're better off left/right AND straight!) Decided to do a pre-assembly conveniently indoors rather than risk banging the screws into the dirt/grass to drop. It was partially helpful. Rotated it into position on the outer gutter - although I don't think it wobbled to its original height and decided the tilt wasn't severe enough. So, back to the tools, I took the multi-tool and removed about 1 inch from the bottom spout. THEN I couldn't put my elbow back up. After an hour I managed to wiggle them just enough to do it. for some time. no anchor bolt up. whenever. I hope it holds up until I get a better fix. Would I save time if I did it on site? Maybe, but not a lot of hour including cutting a new grommet. And I have NEVER had anything in perfect condition. Plan a longer time at the outlet. The rest of this project now on hold for a few days (if not until spring) until it's safe to go shopping at home (unless it's a warm day and I don't have anything for 4 hours to do).
