I bought this to use as a repeater (my old one could only work with a 2.4GHz wireless bridge but I wanted one for 5G so file transfers were faster ). The first problem is that you need the internet when you set up the product for the first time. You need to connect it to another router and use its internet connection to start the installation. The second problem is that you need to create a Netgear account. This is another password to remember. The third problem is that if you want to create a wireless bridge, you need to know exactly where to look. Advanced->Advanced Setup->Advanced WiFi Settings. Then click on "Use another operating mode" at the bottom. Clicking on it brings up a new section and a purple button disguised as a banner. It's like they don't want you to use this device for a wireless bridge. The fourth headache is that it takes a few seconds to search the web when you want to sign up. If it finds the internet, it forces you to log into your Netgear account. If the internet is not found, you can log in with a local account. In any case, while waiting to get to the login screen, you can look at the photo of the same man/actor. I'd rather look at the solid background again than this guy's face. The fifth problem is that it seems to be starting to block random connections. That is very strange. DNS queries only for amazon.com and www.amazon.com expire, but I can query DNS for any other site including smile.amazon.com. Pings to the server's virtual IP are blocked and I cannot ping my computer from the server. When I restart the router, the connection continues for a while until it gets blocked again. I've checked all the settings and can't figure out what could be causing this. The latest headaches are the worst, especially when you're working from home due to the coronavirus and are blocking some of your connections.
