Item arrived in good condition, calibrated for water level.

Item arrived in good condition and has been calibrated for water level. The temperature reading is in degrees Celsius and for me, being born and raised in Europe, that's normal. In the 30C to 35C range the readings are very close to 30F to 35F. If you need an F display use it you a refractometer with an F-reading Please don't leave a bad review because you made the wrong decision. I decided to flush my 2014 Audi A4 Quattro with 70,000 miles on it. It only takes about $150 labor to flush the coolant. I need a refractor to check the density of the coolant. Depending on the weather we are in, the strength of the coolant will vary. The higher the water content in the coolant, the higher the heat capacity and heat dissipation from the engine block. less antifreeze needs to circulate to the radiator. On the other hand, the larger the amount of water, the higher the freezing point of the liquid. predicted to fall below -30F, then we extract some coolant and add concentrated antifreeze to bring it down to -35 to -40. To check you need a refractometer. Note that the shelf life of an unopened bottle of Audi Antifreeze G12 or G13 is only 3 years. It is recommended to flush the radiator every 3 years. If you don't want to go through this mess, drain and refill your radiator every year. Remember that half of the coolant is in the cylinder block, but it circulates while driving. I culpably ordered this item with a coolant and battery fluid density gauge on it. Most batteries are maintenance free, so you can't advertise the electrolyte they contain. Even if there are battery plugs, just add distilled water. If you want to flush the battery and refill it with new electrolyte, you have to do it in a glass container, add acid to distilled water, cool the mixture and check the density with a float glass hydrometer with a thermometer. I did this a long time ago. some time ago when buying dry lead-acid batteries, adding new electrolyte, waiting for the voltage to build up and charging, and finally going through the battery equalization process. It doesn't cost a car battery. Just keep the voltage above 12.6V and replace it when it dies. So I'm going to buy my son another refractometer but only with antifreeze readings if I can find one. Only for ethylene glycol and propylene glycol.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
