I just upgraded from a 2012 iMac to a new 2019 iMac. I had two VGA monitors connected to a 2012 iMac and wanted to connect them to my new iMac. The old iMac connection was via Mini DisplayPort (to the iMac Thunderbolt 2 port) to a DVI cable (to the back of the VGA monitor). Since the new iMac didn't have a Thunderbolt 2 connection -- now replaced with a Thunderbolt 3 connection -- I figured I could plug a Thunderbolt 2-to-Thunderbolt 3 adapter onto the end of the Thunderbolt 2 cable and do it all in would be okay. Not correct. I used the KEEZING USB-C to Mini DisplayPort, Type C (Thunderbolt 3) to Mini DisplayPort Adapter on Revain. Didn't work at all so bought a new cable - works great. No problem.
