UPDATED with a big bug after 7 months of use: I've been using TomTOm for years and have been reasonably happy with it but its maps are hopelessly outdated so I decided opt for an upgrade. Pros: * Menu is simpler than TomTom * Screen is easy to read * Screen mount works VERY well. It is easy to apply (don't forget to moisten it slightly). It secures the suction cup by pushing a lever, which is more secure than the TomTom method of pressing it against the glass. They include a certificate for a free dashboard mount disk if required by your state. me. * The sound is very good * The on-screen buttons are customizable and give me some features that I used to dig through the menu on TomTOm like a temporary mute * Unlimited free maps and lifetime traffic * The map's computer update was a bit complicated and took a long time the first time, but it worked well and didn't mess up my computer like the TomTom software did. * I haven't used it on battery for very long so I don't know how long the battery will last but it works fine. When you turn off the device, it detects that the external power is gone and says "Turn off in 15 seconds". When you press the button, it stays on. I've done this a few times when I stopped at a gas station because I didn't want to restart it *GPS functions and reception are fine Cons: *Documentation is terrible and really hinders use. For example: I found a very frustrating question that doesn't seem to have an answer. IF I wanted to change a setting (e.g. the volume) I had no option to continue with the route I was following. After reading the user manual I did not find a solution. Eventually, tech support told me all I had to do was click show map. This is not an intuitive but solvable problem. Examples like this abound, so I'm downgrading my rating from an original 6 to a 4. ^ No protective case for GPS when not in use (of course I can buy one).
