Voice recognition doesn't work and traffic tips are just annoying

I paid extra for this device to get voice recognition and traffic alerts. No job is worth a flip. Navigation works well. If I were just rating the navigation it would be four stars but the navigation is the same as cheaper models. Speech recognition recognizes commands, but not spontaneous inputs such as numbers and letters. Also, he will think the conversations are commands, come to life and start talking to you - I turned it off. Traffic alerts constantly warn of non-existent problems, and…

I have to keep it close like a microphone

This is my third GPS receiver and the only thing that makes it different from the others is the voice recognition. I'm having some trouble understanding the addresses when it's installed on the dashboard. In order for it to work more reliably, I have to keep it close like a microphone when I'm speaking. It's actually easy because I use a Garmin wearable friction mount (purchased from Revain.com) to mount it to my Honda Odyssey's dash. The traffic receiver is good too. Traffic was slowed a few…

Great UI improvements, I hate losing the motorized mount

bugs that bothered me: (1) No power mount - NO POWER mount again. This is probably one of my favorite features. I always keep the power cradle attached to my radio pouch and prefer to easily remove the GPS module when not in use. Handling the USB cable is so tedious. (2) The speaker hums a little when installed. What I liked: (1) Instant on. The device is actually sleeping and can be turned on immediately by pressing the power button. Much better than the nüvi 2360LMT. (2) Screen brightness…

Good GPS, terrible map update process and software

Having had other Garmin GPS units before, I thought I made a wise choice in purchasing this unit. That was until I tried updating this unit with Garmin map update software which is an absolute joke and if you study the experiences of customers trying to update their maps you will doubt this purchase I think. The free lifetime map update is a big selling point for me as I tend to store GPS units until they either fail or are stolen. So when I spent hours updating this device that I had just…

Doesn't have many of the issues mentioned

Nuvi 2495LMT. I come from a 3 year old Magellan GPS and Garmin GPS. I've also used GPS on an iPhone, both a navigator and a built-in one, again on iOS6. Overall, this is the best offline GPS I've ever used, almost as good as the iPhone. This GPS is generally very good. My main reason for taking it was to have something permanent in the minivan so I could leave my phone free for other things. It's fairly full-featured and in a winning position in terms of cost and features. The attitude was…

Great GPS but could have been a better route planner

I've been driving my Nuvi 2495 in my Mazda Miata for about 6 weeks, mostly with the top down and I love it a lot. The screen is bright enough to be seen well even in a convertible. I like using it vertically and the screen with its icons and windows seems well thought out for vertical use. I was amazed that the voice control works even when driving on the Autobahn at 70 with the top down! POIs are very good. I don't have a problem with the traffic sign or advertisements as they are pretty…

Excellent GPS in MOST aspects but a few annoyances

UPDATED with a big bug after 7 months of use: I've been using TomTOm for years and have been reasonably happy with it but its maps are hopelessly outdated so I decided opt for an upgrade. Pros: * Menu is simpler than TomTom * Screen is easy to read * Screen mount works VERY well. It is easy to apply (don't forget to moisten it slightly). It secures the suction cup by pushing a lever, which is more secure than the TomTom method of pressing it against the glass. They include a certificate for a…

Garmin Nuvi 2495LMT

Having had 5 different GPS units over the past few years, 3 of which are Garmin, I would go for a Garmin anytime. This is a great product. Garmin has excellent phone/tech support here in the US. Anytime I had any problems or questions, each of these support guys was knowledgeable, very familiar with the product, spoke clearly and we had no communication problems between us. (This is very important to me, I've had other brands that either didn't know the product or we had trouble understanding…
