Cleanly cuts cable jacket and wire. The return spring is too short, fails when it doesn't help the least. This tool may involve crimping the wire end, or if what appears to be on the inside of the dies is supposed to do the job, it does a terrible job. I already had one. It was more expensive than this tool I bought for my bike tool bag. However, it's not worth lugging around, so it stays in a drawer at home with my other tools. Became a waste of money when not in my bike bag. If you work on your bike and change cables and covers, you deserve a better tool. If you do occasional repairs and don't do other auto work, this might be a necessary tool to add to your kit. It's priced right and it will do the job for you. Be careful if you try to crimp the end of the cable and you should be fine.
