Review on DMD Convenient Sharpener: Optimized for Easy Activities and Enhanced Compatibility by Rob Parsons

Summary: I've been using carbide sharpeners for a number of years. Originally bought Corona (12/2019), then Sharpal (12/2019). Although very similar, the Corona is slightly smaller and the Sharpal has more cutting surfaces. Both have excellent carbide cutting surfaces. I will compare this DMD to both. Observations: When it comes to diamond grinding, Diamond Machine Technology (DMT, not DM"D") is the industry leader. While DMD diamond stones are worthy, they are no match for DMT. DMT does not offer suitable carbide and diamond sharpeners. The cutting head of the DMD is very bulky, making it difficult to use with smaller secateurs (gets in between the blades); Corona has the smallest/narrowest head. Recommendations: Carbide is a very hard material, so these tungsten carbide sharpeners work very well on softer metals such as high carbon steel, effectively cutting away material to create a new cutting edge. Accordingly, the carbide, while very hard, breaks easily if dropped, which is why both Corona and Sharpal have a cap that DMD does not. Pros: Three-sided product with added diamond cut and ceramic rods for a subtle touch. Cons: No cover to protect cut surfaces; a greater overall sharpening of the head. Verdict: $8, 4 stars. For a carbide bur I would recommend Corona/Sharpal instead of DMD.
