I've been trying to find something that works with yams and if you heat it for a few minutes first it works. I bought it based on the reviews that it is very strong and it is. My husband was able to get through the first one without a microwave, but it was very difficult and took all of his time and energy. After the microwave everything went much easier. We put both batches in the fryer and they came out right away. This is the perfect thickness as you can see in the picture. They turned out crispy on the outside, but some tasty potatoes on the inside. A little difficult to reach for cleaning, but I just had to find the best way to lean under the flow of water. Happy I bought. This saves us money when shopping in the store.
