Be prepared for your iPhone to overheat and fail

I bought this device for a number of reasons. The main reason was that I travel long distances and my iPhone battery doesn't last long enough. So I have a brick charger (which I really love, by the way). I wanted something that would hold them both. Another reason was that there was enough space for my glasses, some money and an energy bar. Saying "long trips" so far this month (now July 22 as of this writing) I've traveled 470 miles. Today I rode over 60 km. Since half of it was in the foothills (about 1300 feet up), I was gone more than six hours; 4.5 of these were recorded by the actual travel time. I say "it was recorded" because the iPhone overheated at 54 miles. I didn't notice it right away because you can't see the screen well through the plastic when the sun is shining. (Another reason for the lower rating.) Realizing that I wasn't getting any ads from the app, I stopped, checked, and saw that the iPhone was overheating. Then I checked the internet and realized that this is a common problem with such bags. One of the apps I used (Polar Beat) that updates Strava could not be restored. (Runkeeper recovered well and recorded all but a gap of miles from the distance I covered during the overheated portion.) I had to restart Polar Beat, which resulted in two different rides being recorded (one right after the others). So we're back to finding a way to keep my stuff together without burning the iPhone. Do not take this bag with you if you are making long trips in the sun or in an area of the country that gets hot. .
