Review on AOC CU34G2X: Ultimate Immersive, Frameless Ultrawide Screen for HD Gaming and More! by Jonathan Cardenas

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Locked up! to my rating.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I've never been able to get this monitor to work for more than a few minutes. It arrived on time and very well packed in foam, looked like new from the factory. I really wanted to use it since it comes with dual display port inputs; unusual for this type of monitor. I have 3 devices, two with display ports and one with HDMI. It worked immediately with Display Ports for 10 minutes. When I tried to switch to my Windows 10 Tower, HDMI 1.4 with OSD, things quickly went downhill. The OSD is a horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen, with left and right arrows for navigation and up and down arrows for selection. That in itself isn't a problem, except that the menu buttons are tiny and recessed slightly behind the bottom edge of the bezel. I struggled to press the buttons with my fat fingers, had to increase the wait time, and still had some trouble navigating the menus. I've spent enough time making the introduction easier, but it remains clumsy and clumsy. I'm hesitant to make a big deal out of this, but I've used dozens of monitors, some more user-friendly than others, and I've never had problems like this. If everything else worked then it wouldn't be a problem as once everything is set up you'll probably just need to use the menus to switch inputs. Due to an issue I was having I spent some time trying in vain to switch to HDMI when I finally couldn't access the menu screen at all. I suspect it could be some sort of OSD setting for DDC/CI or hardware that can be easily fixed. Backdated 20/20 I had to use a factory HDMI cable before sending it back. but there's no good reason to completely block the OSD as this hasn't been an issue on any other monitor so I figured I didn't want to mess with it for that reason alone. It happens right out of the box, probably rarely, and it started off really well, so there's no reason to assume this product won't work well for most users. The specs of this monitor are really good and I suspect that when used with a DisplayPort on the same PC it should work fine for gaming. I've never gotten to the point where HDMI was inconsistent and with the power LED lit (i.e. monitor on) and the three inputs active, when I tried to switch between them the menu screen didn't show up at all and I couldn't Use the blank screen monitor without accessing the menu. Now the display ports don't work anymore either. Remember it really worked for a while. The picture was good and I was happy as long as it lasted before I started having problems. My HDMI cables were labeled as 4k cables which I bought from Best Buy so I assumed they were fine so I didn't use the cable that came with the monitor as mine has the same setup worked fine on another 21:9 monitor If you cannot access the OSD, this is a sure sign that the monitor is not recognizing the HDMI input. No input signal, no OSD. No OSD, no way to switch input back to working displayport, catch 22! I believe this is a design flaw in the menu system that could have been prevented by a small red reset button that provides a way to mechanically reset the system to a healthy default state. It would be nice to have a proper manual with enough information to save you from trouble. I've tried all the usual steps to give it some life, power cycle it, check cables with another monitor, etc. Turn PC off/on. Can not do anything. dead in the water Bad cable? Maybe something related to DDC/CI, but by that time you should definitely be able to use the menu again, Catch 22! I have used many devices that have had bad reviews from others where they were 5 stars for me. Of course, not all identical products are unsuitable. For the first time in twenty years of online shopping, I've had a fatal failure, so consider myself fortunate and not upset. Just because I had a problem doesn't mean others will necessarily have the same; That's why I gave three stars instead of one. Walter o.
