Review on Feit BPESL13T/GU24/41K: Energy-Efficient 13W Twist GU24 Base Light - Cool White (60W Equivalent) by Brian Crockett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not all GU24 CFL bulbs are created equal. Before buying light bulbs, check the color temperature in Kelvin.

I bought a 13w Feit GU24 bulb to replace one of the two vanity lamps that came with my new vanity. After installing the Feit bulb and turning on the light switch, I was amazed at how different the two bulbs were in color and brightness. When buying a Feit lamp, I checked all the specifications, but forgot to pay attention to whether the color temperature corresponds to the lamp that burned out. This turned out to be a godsend for me, but maybe not for others, as I'll explain below. NOT ALL COLOR TEMPERATURES ARE THE SAME: If I were to take a closer look, I would find that two lightbulbs do not match in color temperature. The new Feit 4100K lamp is much whiter and brighter than the 3000K lamp, although both are 13W with a 60W equivalent. The original lamp is much more yellow. I should mention that the bulb I replaced came with a vanity lamp freshly installed, so it wasn't old unless it was sold to me that way. I got lucky with the lightbulb (wish there were more in my life). Of course, color temperature is a very subjective thing, so keep that in mind before you buy lightbulbs. For convenience, below are approximate examples of color temperatures on the Kelvin scale. I'm not an expert, so please do your own research. I'm happy to correct mistakes if you leave a comment. Examples of color temperatures in Kelvin (K) (approximately): Warm Colors (yellowish) ----- 1000 Candlelight 3000 Incandescent or Soft/Warm CFL 4100 Moonlight 5000 Fluorescent Light 6500 Cloudy Daylight 10000+ Clear Blue Sky ----- Cool Colors (bluish white) I later bought a second Feit lamp and now I have a matching pair and a very bright bathroom. I am surprisingly happy with this purchase. PROS: At 4100K, it's whiter and brighter than the yellowish 13W GU24 3000K bulb it replaced. do not have the same connection as screw bulbs.) CONS: - Expensive, but the savings on energy bills are likely to outweigh the cost of the bulb.
