Review on πŸ”— 350 Feet T316 1/8-inch Stainless Steel Cable with Wire Rope Cutter, Heavy Duty Aircraft Cable for Deck Railing, 7x7 Strands Construction with Non-Slip Gloves Set by Dave Giri

Inexpensive

Received this in May 2021 and installed a 6 foot 11 strand railing on an enclosed balcony. This is at house 3 150 m from the coast. It's October now. The cable still looks pretty good, but it does get rusty/stained. It does not corrode in any way and does not lose strength. But the color change is already noticeable. I'm worried it might not be exactly 316 steel (probably 304). The rest of my components (lugs, anchor/rod balls, bushings, ferrules) were sold as 316 and they are all holding up great. If it happens in SUMMER 5 months from now I'm not sure how it will hold up for the next 6 months. . Although the price was great, I'm afraid I'll have to replace the cables (and therefore the ball joints and ferrules and the reusable bushings). This will make it a fairly expensive replacement. So the long-term value might not be that great (plus the work). So 3 stars. I'll try CLR cables and then quickly apply a polymer coating and see if that helps in the winter. I'll update next year and let you know if the rust discoloration gets worse.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Don't really like it, everything is fine
