Review on Fiskars X25 Splitting Axe: 28-Inch Length for Superior Splitting Power by Bill Escobar

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Based on 5 years of use - Highly Recommended

I bought this ax 5 years ago, so many hours of use is the basis for this rating. excellent ax for chopping wood. Its design and shape, as well as the coating, makes it effective and should result in more splits on a given number of swings than the standard wooden-handled ax found at hardware stores. However, Fiskars tend to be more expensive than these standard axes. Decades of chopping and chopping wood I've found that you get what you pay for when it comes to wood cutting and chopping tools. So I cut with Stihl or Husqvarna chainsaws and stab with a Fiskars axe. Now in the last 5 years I've never had a problem with this axe, other than that it seemed too short for my personal liking. I've read that you shouldn't use a 36"X27 ax unless you're over 6ft or so, but I don't think that's true. I'm more comfortable standing and swinging for a longer distance, so I'd go with the X27 instead. X25 That doesn't mean the X25 isn't a great tool, though, because it is. The handle makes it easy to sharpen the axe, the handle won't break like wooden handles. So on this ax the plastic latch on the lid broke so now I use cardboard and rubber cord to cover the blade. Also, do you always try to use an old truck tire to hold your wood chucks together when you split them? This works great and your back will appreciate not having to bend down after each swing of the ax.
