I bought this adapter to charge my laptop during my semester abroad in Italy. It works very well with grounded appliances - any appliance with a 3 pin US plug simply plugs in and the adapter then plugs into an Italian outlet. You can also use this 2 pin American plug adapter. As another reviewer mentioned, the only downside is that some Italian sockets only have 2 prongs and will not work with a grounded plug. However, I had no problem finding an outlet that worked with this adapter and I live in a fairly old apartment. I have four outlets in my room, all of which are grounded, as are the other outlets in my apartment. Also, make sure your device can convert electricity itself. The easiest way to do this is to check the label on the charging box. He usually says something like 100-240V when he can convert the power. If only one number is listed, you will need to buy a converter to convert the voltage as the adapter cannot do it alone.
