Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Dorman 265-820 Transmission Pan: Sleek and Dependable in Stylish Black by Eric Wright

OEM quality. Nice easy job.

Excellent replacement. After replacing my axles I noticed a leak on the driver's side behind the wheel. At first I thought I broke the axle bearing but it was pretty dry and wouldn't run when I loved it. So I ran my fingers over the gaskets and gear pans and found a wet spot on the differential cover pan. I also noticed a small dent, best of all I think I must have accidentally hit it while using my Ugga Dugga on the axles and axle nut. So I figured it needed to be replaced. I've never tackled this type of job, but someone used Permatex RTV on the main shipping pallet and it was still leaking, so I went with Mopar stuff. The quality is much better. The order came quickly thanks to Prime. I used a plastic paint scraper to cut away the old sealer and carefully peel off the pan. I let him drip ATF+4 into the sump for 24 hours to make sure the contact surfaces were dry. I used a dremel (any small rotary tool will do) and a small wire brush attachment. I removed all remnants of the old gasket as shown in pic 1. I cleaned the metal surfaces with rubbing alcohol and made sure no bits of the gasket got on the gears. Once I knew it was clean, I wiped the Dorman pan's mating surface with rubbing alcohol and applied some genuine Mopar Trans Pan RTV Sealant (part number below). I ran my finger over the RTV bead around the mating surface and around the bolt holes (but not in the bolt holes - it could foul your transmission). I pinched it with my fingers and left it for 20 minutes. I then carefully screwed it in and filled in the lost ATF+4 (about 1 quart). It's been over a month and I haven't had any leaks at all. No problem. The diff cover holds up well, just like the original. I recommend this as a replacement. RTV Part Number: 05010884AD Transmission (ATF+4) Specific: MS-GF-41 B
