Fun Robot Project: Single Board Computer

I worked with my 12 year old son to build a robot. This is an interesting project with many options. Everything went well. The only problem we had was that I didn't have a good wrench so I had to use several small sockets - they had a hard time getting where I needed them. I was able to hold the nut with needle nose pliers to tighten the bolt - it worked. I ended up buying good mini keys and it helped a lot. I recommend investing in a few if you're doing small nut projects like this one. The instructions were easy to follow - my son followed them with no problem. The kit comes with many sensors and items. Cool LED dot matrix screen that can show what the robot is doing, ultrasonic sensors, light sensors, etc. He dropped one of the tiny nuts and we lost it so I had to run to the hardware store to buy a replacement. Be careful, the parts are SMALL! There are about 15 different code examples that you can download from their robot programming site. It's all very well commented, so it's easy to edit the code to do different things. One thing that caused me to get stuck trying to download the code is that you have to remove the bluetooth receiver to download the code. The instructions keep saying that and in red, but of course I kept skipping it. Be sure to remove this module to load the code. It was a very fun project for my son to work on. He liked it very much. We haven't started modifying the code for other purposes yet, but I think that's next.
