This is a normal solution to prevent someone from just walking up to you and taking your tailgate. However, not much more protection.
Pretty cheaply made, I don't think the minimal security improvements it offers justify the price. It's a stainless steel clamp in a plastic case with a fancy head so a regular tool can't loosen it. Okay, that might stop a complete amateur from taking your back door, but this device doesn't give you a sense of security or confidence that it will withstand any attack. I agree with others, had I known this I would have taped the loop and added a couple of hose clamps. The good news is that someone else has a market opportunity to step up and invent a real tailgate latch.
