I just finished the installation and am very happy. The instructions have improved, but still leave a lot to be desired. Proper installation and adjustment of this door closer is a guarantee that the door closer will not break/damage your door. And there's not much other information on the web, although with some limited research you can piece together advice. First, an installation template is included, but I would caution anyone against relying on just one template. Maybe if you have a very basic setup, but it didn't work for me and I only use it for a regular residential setup. Instead, use your template measurements and a tape measure to make sure you're positioned correctly. The farther you are from the door hinge, the lower the closing force, but the less the door opens. I would advise keeping the hinge side closer screws within 3.5"-4.75" of the door frame/hinge edge. edge (my mistake) and it didn't work at all. The door opened with difficulty, and when it closed it seemed so violent that it uncontrollably pulled the screws from the door closer. When I moved closer to the manufacturer's specs, it worked as advertised. Also make sure the lever attached to the door frame is at a 90° angle and the closer is not. This slightly attracts the closer and helps it fully lock the door. If instead the closer's arm was 90° perpendicular to the door, the closer would be much less efficient. So the best way to align and mount this upper arm to the door frame is to assemble the linkage and orient it at a 90* angle and then drill holes to mount it.
