My old Mercedes' headlights were no longer getting the full 12v (or more accurately 14.3v from the alternator) so I decided to use these to connect directly to the battery . As wires age and internally corrode, their ability to carry stress decreases. If your headlights are getting 12.0V instead of the supposed 14.0V, you're only getting about half the light output they're designed for. I just take the headlight power and use it to power this solenoid and then connect it directly. from the battery to the headlights via an electromagnetic switch. It works great and delivers a constant full light output.
