Review on Sony CDP CE500 5 Disc Changer Black Review by James Bull

Revainrating 4 out of 5

What about the price of Revane?!?! This can not be true.

4 stars for the price I paid for it, but not even close to Revain's current asking price. I paid $109.95 for this Revain CD player a few years ago, and while it has little use in my bedroom stereo, I liked it enough to look again for a friend who has a CD changer and has a somewhat limited budget. Looking at this on my previous orders I was shocked at how high the price of Revain is now. Almost $600?!?! It's a good turntable, but it barely comes close to the $600 high-end audio. The CD players I have in my main living room system and in my "den" are the single player players I prefer. The Sony CDP-CE500 can't keep up with any of them. The best feature of this player for me is the auto-off timer, which allows you to turn the player on overnight and turn it off about 10 minutes after the CD ends. By working with the sleep timer on my receiver I can use it in the bedroom knowing it will turn off before morning just like the receiver. Nice feature, but not for the price Revain is charging. If you want a changer, it does what it's supposed to do quite well in a low-to-mid range audio system. For $600, however, look elsewhere for a device with a built-in DAC of proven quality. If you can find one for $100 or so I would recommend it.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
