Review on Roman Carbide DC1842 Carbide Forstner Bit, 3/8-Inch by William Belczyk

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not a true forstner bit

This bit is more of a paddle bit, specifically a crowned paddle.Does it makes holes? Yes. Does it make a flat hole like a forstner? Nope.If you look closely at the cutting edge there are cutting leads on the outside edges, this leads to an upside down "crowning" effect on the hole, so if you're trying to get a flat pocket - you won't. It looks more like you drilled a hole and then shoved a rounded down into it.Not good if you need to get flat holes with close clearance in materials like hardwood.

Pros
  • Long-lasting durability
Cons
  • The bit may not work well for drilling at an angle
