GOTTA LOVE IT. good for me

Great Bit! Had to cut through leather, foam and crap plywood in every plunge (EVERY PLUNGE HAD NO ROOM FOR ERROR, ANY TEAR OR OVER CUT OR SPLIT = JOB DESTROYED). I had to use it in a cordless drill no less and it performed AWESOME. This bit would be worth it at twice the cost. Got a lot more than I bargained for. SO VERY COOL.GOTTA LOVE IT. This is a great bit for those times when you require an extra clean job, such as cutting holes for rear mount flush to face object (no bezel) needs to be…

Pros
  • Nice sharp bit. Used it multiply times and it is still sharp
Cons
  • The bit produces too much heat, making it difficult to use for extended periods

You Can't Always Trust Negative Reviews

Yes its possible that some people get bad bits and tools in general from time to time. But you have to factor in whether or not that person is capable of using said item properly, a lot of people are not, so I usually take a risk on poorly rated items if they look to be well built. Most of the time I find that the items are satisfactory as is with this bit. The holes are flat, the holes are cut clean, what more can you ask from a forstner bit. The head's design doesn't lend itself to cutting…

Pros
  • Have not used it enough to determine longevity or value for the money.
Cons
  • The bit is not compatible with all drill machines

Nice Price, But Poor Quality. Avoid

Under $50 for a 3" diameter, carbide tipped forstner bit seemed like a fantastic bargain, until I tried drilling with it.I chucked this impressively large drill bit into my tabletop drill press, hoping to bore a surgically neat 1/4" deep hole into a poplar board. I slowed my drill press to 600 RPM's; its lowest speed. The board was clamped in place to prevent it from moving. I allowed the tool to do the work; never forcing it. It spun nicely enough until it made contact with the board…

Pros
  • Accurate
Cons
  • The bit wears out quickly and needs to be replaced regularly

50 50 chance good for me

Bought this product cause I wanted a 1 9/16 forstner bit and this is the only carbide one I could find in that size the first one arived and was horrible I think the shaft was bent because it wobbled and ended up drilling a hole at least 1 3/4 then a replacement was sent and nothing wrong with it in perfect shape and drills a exact hole I guess it’s hit and miss in if you get a good or bad one

Pros
  • Like the length
Cons
  • The bit is not suitable for use on laminates and composites

Revainrating 4 out of 5

good price for wood holes and not for plastic or pvc

I needed 1 1/16 exactly. These do not mic out exactly there. They are slightly larger. That does not work for what I am doing in pvc plastic pipes. In wood however these would be great and the price is reasonable.

Pros
  • Forstner Drill Bits
Cons
  • The product may not work well for countersinking

Huge time saver.: my feedback

Great for the starter hole for bowl or vase turning. Seems to be fairly well made, and SHARP, which is a gamble when ordering bits of any kind from AMAZON.

Pros
  • ‎China
Cons
  • The product may not work well with certain cutting oils

Great Bit. on my review.

I am thrilled with how well this forstner bit workes ! I immediately started using it on some walnut and talk about sharp, it was cutting off thin ribbons of wood 3-4 feet long ! Throw away your steel forstner bits and get these, you wont regret it.I cant wait to get an entire box set of these.

Pros
  • ‎Standard
Cons
  • The bit may not work well with larger drill machines

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not a true forstner bit

This bit is more of a paddle bit, specifically a crowned paddle.Does it makes holes? Yes. Does it make a flat hole like a forstner? Nope.If you look closely at the cutting edge there are cutting leads on the outside edges, this leads to an upside down "crowning" effect on the hole, so if you're trying to get a flat pocket - you won't. It looks more like you drilled a hole and then shoved a rounded down into it.Not good if you need to get flat holes with close clearance in materials like…

Pros
  • Long-lasting durability
Cons
  • The bit may not work well for drilling at an angle

Clean Precise Bores, We Tested It, Watch Our Video.

We tested the Roman Carbide 3/4 inch and the 1-15/16 inch bit and was so pleased with the results. Watch our video for the larger bit in action. -- CLEAN PERFECT BORES: Using a drill press, we bored holes in both hard white oak and walnut the holes were beautifully clean and smooth on the sides and bottom. -- NO BURNING: There were no break out edges and the cuts did not burn even after repeated drilling. -- VERY SHARP!: The cutting edges produce large long shavings which indicate a very sharp…

Pros
  • ‎0.37 x 0.38 x 3.54 inches
Cons
  • The bit may not work well for inlay work

Cuts holes like I need it to and does it quickly.

I've only used this for about 20 cuts. It's hands down way better than my ryobi HSS forstner bit that over heated and blued cutting holes in pine. This thing cuts cleaner and faster than that and is why I probably had the ryobi turn blue. dragging it along the cut surface to bore the holes.I dunno why some people say it's not a true forstner bit or that it doesn't cut true flat bottom holes. even if it doesn't, who cares? It's doing everything i need it to do and I'm yet to find where I need a…

Pros
  • Hex shanks will not slip and fit 3/8-inch drill chucks
Cons
  • The product is not as durable as other carbide-tipped Forstner bits

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great build quality, questionable cutter geometry

This looks and feels like a great forstner bit, but its cutting performance indicates it's not quite right. It seems like there's no relief on the cutting edges, resulting in hot, laborious cuts. The centering point has issues- it's sharp, but doesn't stay centered as well as other HSS bits in a similar price point and emerges from its hole with wood fibers wrapped around it. This seems like an indication that it's not cutting right. Holes cut using this bit show signs of the bit wandering…

Pros
  • Time-saving: Thanks to its carbide-tipped design, this Forstner bit requires minimal effort and time to drill highly precise holes, allowing you to complete your woodworking tasks much faster and with improved accuracy
Cons
  • The product may not be as reliable as other Forstner bits

Works well best in my review

I tried a different bit earlier that didn't work for me. This one is working. I have an old drill press that's not all that powerful even on the slowest setting. I'm working through some hardwood right now. The progress is slow, but considering how much wood it's cutting through, it's doable. It definitely takes a new level of patience compared to a smaller drill bit that tears through stuff. I think the fact that it has 2 teeth on the outside instead of a whole bunch helps because there is…

Pros
  • After using these i will not go back to HSS forstner bits. They work great.
Cons
  • The bit may not be suitable for drilling angled or curved holes

Order had come in wrong size. revain made right

Had issues with wrong one being delivered. Left review, and was sent correct one. Issues happen but when taken care of correctly, makes everything ok.

Pros
  • Easy to control
Cons
  • The product may not be suitable for industrial use

Roman Carbide forstner bit not very sharp

I ordered this bit and used it to make 27 holes in 2x4 pine boards. The bit started out pretty well and the chips were flying everywhere. I used a drill press with the bit and didn't rush through the earlier holes as I would let the bit do some work, raise it back up and go at it again.several times for each hole. However, as I got to the end, I wasn't sure if the bit was going to get through the final 3 holes. It did but was certainly slower than at the beginning. Now it appears that one side…

Pros
  • Ordered 1-⅜" bit says 1-⅜ but actually measures 1-½" previously ordered 1-5/16" and it was true to size.
Cons
  • The bit may not provide a flat bottom for the drilled hole

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best bit yet on my review.

I highly recommend these bits! My current project has been rather tough on forstner bits. I tried some of the other major brands on the market and broke two of them in on the first use. The Roman Carbide bit handled the job with ease. Made it through the rest of the project with no issues.

Pros
  • Cuts clean with no tearout
Cons
  • It is not suitable for use by those who are new to woodworking

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sturdy, works well!

I purchased this 1 9/16" Forstner bit to make a flat-bottomed hole in 3/8" plexiglass for an LED candle. Many answers to my question about using it in plexiglass were discouraging, but it works perfectly! Yes, it makes a mess of shavings, which I am sure it does in wood, too. But it cut cleanly and without excessive chatter, leaving a smooth edged hole. Just go slowly, "peck" drill, and use lots of lubrication. I couldn't be more pleased. Can't speak to longevity, as I have only just gotten it…

Pros
  • Great product. As advertised
Cons
  • The bit does not work well with some types of jigs

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Does not cut end grain birds eye maple.

Tried to drill the 2-7/8” hole in end grain birds eye maple. It chattered and stuck. Chipped violently. No hole drilled. Destroyed what I was trying to drill. The bit arrived in the original package. Inside a much lager box. No packing or bubble wrap, with other items. The protectors on the bit points were outside the original packaging, laying inside the larger box. The bit felt sharp, but could have been damaged by the other items, during shipping.

Pros
  • Used once can’t evaluate further
Cons
  • The bit produces a lot of dust and debris while drilling

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sharp! - cut through oak very well.

Out of the package the edges looked precise and smoothly ground. I needed to ream a piece of oak hand rail and purchased this brand because the hex shank would work better with an bit extension. It cut through the oak very nicely - much better than the new Bosch bit.

Pros
  • Tools & Home Improvement
Cons
  • The bit may not provide a clean hole for some materials

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well worth the money

Came in quickly, seems to be a quality bit. Bored about twenty holes in air dried walnut, no issues. I am a retired shop teacher and I think that for the money this bit is well worth the money. Can't give a rating on longevity.

Pros
  • ‎1.6 ounces
Cons
  • The product may not work well with certain drill chucks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sharp and precise size

Worked great, just go slow. I needed to drill 27 holes for some jigs and this bit stayed sharp until the end. I'd definitely buy from these guys again.

Pros
  • Not good for hard wood.
Cons
  • The carbide tip is sensitive to heat and can easily break
