Shaft bent after very little use

I don't know what it's like for people that got the smaller bits. I'm sure they likely hold up better since it's not so much pressure on the bit. I got the 3 inch one and the shaft bent after only a few uses. It's complete garbage now and I am out of the return window which annoys me because I feel my tools should last more than 4 or 5 uses and then have to be disposed of.

Pros
  • Exceptional precision: This Forstner bit from Roman Carbide guarantees unparalleled precision when drilling holes in wood, leaving behind smooth and clean boreholes with no tearouts
Cons
  • The product may not be suitable for use with certain joints

Drilled too good for my opinion

It worked absolutely perfect. But it shredded my thumb when I missed the hole and it ran across the board. Didn't move my hand in time. Would buy again.

Pros
  • Perfect size stayes sharp.
Cons
  • The bit can chip easily, resulting in a rough cut

Cheap in more than one sense

This forstner bit has slightly weird geometry… it doesn’t have a flat cutting bottom but rather leaves a groove on the circumference as well as a divot at the centre. It’s also not that sharp. I was able to get a good outcome by punching a pilot, then running the bit backwards to cut the fibers before drilling the hole. When I ran the bit forwards initially I got a lot of tear out.

Pros
  • ‎DC1842
Cons
  • The product does not come with a case for safe storage

Definitely cuts a hole!

I needed a large flat bottomed hole cut into very hard Cebil wood. The regular forstner bit just got destroyed and all nicked up in the first 1/16" of an inch. So far this bit hasn't had a problem with the Cebil wood at all! For just a few dollars more, I would highly recommend this bit if you want something that will last. The only complaint is some tearout at the bottom. but really can't expect a different outcome considering the hook on the bit and the grain orientation.

Pros
  • ‎Carbide
Cons
  • The bit may not provide a clean exit hole for some materials

for Drill Press use only.

Good for use in the drill press with the wood clamped down. This bit is NOT good for use in an electric drill because the center is not much "deeper" than the two cutting tips at the outside edges of the bit. This design does not allow the center to maintain its position which in turn can cause the hole to creep off center during the first quarter inch or so. I bought this thinking it would be nice to upgrade to carbide from HSS, but the performance was not notably better.

Pros
  • Super smooth in a variety of materials. Recommend without reservation.
Cons
  • The product is not readily available in all regions

Conduit hole best in my review

I bought this to bore holes for metal conduit and it works as I hoped it would. The project called for a hole that was the exact diameter of the conduit, and this matched exactly. I've only used it for about a dozen holes so I can't speak to longevity.

Pros
  • ‎No
Cons
  • The bit may take longer to drill through certain materials than other Forstner bits

Beautiful cut, sharp as a razor

I got this bit to make a hole just big enough for a 3/4" (I.D.) pipe to go through. It cut a perfect hole. Love good forstner bits!

Pros
  • The bit was ok but some of the carbide tip was chipped off
Cons
  • It is expensive compared to other 3/8-inch Forstner bits in the market

Works perfectly! on my review.

Hopefully this will hold up after repeated use, but so far I really like it! I bought this to make tea light candle holders. It's the perfect size and cuts so much more cleanly (and quietly) than the spade bit I used previously.

Pros
  • This bit cut smooth holes, quickly and accurately.
Cons
  • It is not recommended for use on certain materials

long lasting cutters

I was doing a project that involved boring into end grain hardwood and I was going through spade bits and regular forstner bits like crazy. Then I got these, they changed everything. Sharp, long lasting and in comparison, really worth the price. I recommend them highly.

Pros
  • Provides smoother cutting
Cons
  • The depth of the hole drilled may vary based on the type of material used

Best Forstner Bit for Price!

I do a job every summer cutting down trees and branches and drilling out a hole in them to put candles in for a summer camp that I went to as a child. I do about 1200-1500 of these a summer. This is absolutely a great forstner bit and well worth the money! Before, I could go through maybe 5 or 6 bits a summer as I am even drilling cedar wood which can act like sandpaper on the bits, but this bit handled all 1200 this past summer with complete ease, never had to change the bit! Will be using…

Pros
  • April 11, 2013
Cons
  • The product may not be suitable for high-speed drilling

Nice Drill Bit in my review

This was the perfect diameter for fitting 1/4" black iron pipe into wood. Made 32 holes into pine. Started to become a little dull after many cuts but kept going. I did hit a screw which chipped off a piece of the bit (obviously, not a fault of the product) but remained sharp enough to finish the job.

Pros
  • Drill Bits
Cons
  • The product may not be suitable for use in a production line
