Review on Dorman 3336 Cable Assortment Piece by Young Rich

Not my first choice for repair

First impression is that they haven't been cleaned well or deburred. There were small chips on the thread and small burrs in the trunks. Luckily I had the tools to clean them (faucets, files, etc.). The throttle cables on my VN750 (motorcycle) were worn out on the run and they are not a cheap OEM replacement. About $40 for a cable. So I got these to hopefully connect my own cables to some stainless steel cables I already had ready to cut to size. The smaller barrels fit my choke pipe and carburetor but not with the fully threaded bolts. In no case was it possible to fix the cable without cutting the threads of the barrel. Since they are brass I soldered the wires into the barrels instead. I used 60/40 solder with lots of flux to fill the barrels. They hold at least 40 pounds at each end so I'd say they're pretty solid. I would not recommend this product unless you have a couple of inches of space between cable attachment points. Maybe if they had hex set screws for 2/3 threads in the barrels. It's far better to stash a few spare cables on the bike (or maybe clip them to the underside of a bike seat) than use them in an emergency. I'd rather get an equivalent brass tube and cut it to size for one of my future custom cables.

Pros
  • Sample for one year
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
