I bought some Japanese water stones, watched a few YouTube tutorial videos, and struggled to sharpen my everyday pocket knife to cut through a piece of paper. So I bought this sharpener from Spyderco and the first time I used it my knife was razor sharp. I'm sure if you spend hours honing your ability to keep the blade at the right angle on the water stone you'll get even better results, but with this device it's a piece of cake. You simply hold the blade vertically and the angle is set. Plus, it's easy to set up and you can quickly re-sharpen the blade if it starts to fail. I wish I had bought all the other stones. Highly recommended.
