. First the bad - by all accounts Black (like Brown) is much, much more malleable and less woody than the original Hatchbox wood filament (which is very woody in its raw state and is indistinguishable from natural wood after sanding, staining and finishing). Unlike their regular wood filament, once printed it has a kind of hard glaze that sands away with little effort revealing something close to the texture of the original material. Very strange. I haven't tried staining and finishing and given the darkness and fairly high gloss it seems a little pointless. Well if someone presented me with this material simply as PLA and forgot the fact that it is wood filament I would say it was the most beautiful filament I have ever printed with. This is a silky smooth and lustrous satin that is absolutely gorgeous straight out of the box. just wow. It also appears to be slightly stronger than the original hatchbox wood, which is also a plus. As a bonus, if anything comes up that needs a touch up, it can be sanded down and (if it behaves like regular hatchbox wood) should respond well to a coat of urethane spray.
