For making soap for the first time, I'm very happy with myself! I started by dicing a 1lb block and then melting this oatmeal base in a double boiler. It's best to melt slowly over medium-high heat, which took about 10 minutes stirring constantly. This is not a process where you can walk away and make phone calls. I added 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and once it melted I took it off the heat and added about 10 drops of 100% pure peppermint essential oil. Make sure your molds are ready ahead of time: on a baking sheet or other hard, moveable surface. Pour the melted soap base into the molds, then spray the surface of the soap with isopropyl alcohol to remove bubbles and scum. Allow to cool at room temperature or speed up the process by putting the molds in the fridge, which is what I did. No sweat formed on the soap. My homemade oatmeal mint soap came out amazing with lots of lather and a great scent. A 1 pound block made 4-4 ounces of soap bars and I am very happy with my new hobby! I will be buying Our Earth's Secret soap base again. Next time I'll try shea butter and add vanilla flavored butter.
