The build quality looks good but the read speed is terrible - some other reviewers have mentioned that the Bluray disc ripping speed is terrible, I can confirm that. Same machine, same software, this drive delivers 14 frames per second; while other internal BD drive + USB 3.0 enclosure configurations can run at 70 fps. Some might say that the firmware might be designed to prevent Blu-ray ripping by slowing it down, but the normal data disc reading speed isn't that good either. The device will show up in Windows Device Manager as "Pioneer BDR-UD03". I know that some Pioneer drives have a "quiet mode" that changes speed to silent, and Pioneer has a drive utility that allows you to change this setting to enable full speed mode. Unfortunately, this version of Verbatim doesn't seem to have such a companion program either on the Verbatium website or on the Pioneer website. Required as read/write speeds never exceed USB 2.0 specification.
