Review on Thule 855Xt Quick Draw Ratchet Ropes: Secure Your Cargo with Ease by Nathan Vaughn

Reliable and safe, but prone to corrosion in salty environments

I already had these from a previous purchase. I only needed one more to secure the extra kayak. It was very similar to the one I bought from REI except the color of the rope was a slightly different shade of blue. After a few months of use in salty Florida, the carabiners began to rust terribly, which mainly affects the opening speed. The actual ratchet seems unaffected by the salt. However, I am looking for a replacement for carabiners for safety reasons. Oh, and a bit of a nuisance, made worse by rust, the carabiner has what looks like a safety latch that easily hooks onto the black loops used to secure the kayak. So if you're not paying close attention when loosening the strap, you'll have to figure out how to loosen it. Which isn't much fun on the side of a highway in the Florida Keys when convenience food rushes by. Okay, back to finding a replacement carabiner to fit a narrow ratchet.

Pros
  • All right!
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
