My Silverado has a chronic problem with the "Tighten fuel cap" message. I always check the gas cap and make sure it "clicks" three times. After a while the Check Engine light comes on, alerting me to a small vapor leak. Once it does, it will almost never go away on its own. This dashboard is driving me crazy! I took my truck to a Chevrolet and another shop and asked them to just fix it. So far no one has suggested I do anything other than buy a new gas cap (I've always used a Delco product) or restart the whole system by disconnecting the battery for 1-2 hours. That solves the problem for a couple of weeks and I can pass the inspection. I will be buying less of these caps in the future due to their cost and they don't seem to solve my problem and there doesn't seem to be a right solution from Chevrolet or any other company.
