Review on ๐Ÿšด Blinky 3 Bicycle Tail Light by Planet Bike by Travis Flores

Falls off bike while cycling

This is a good flashlight with very good battery life, but it has two annoying flaws. The first and least serious is turning the "soft touch" on and off. Soft-touch silicone button. No problem. The bad news is that it takes a very light press to activate Blinky. Because of this I can't toss it in my bike bag between rides as Blinky can activate if the bike gets bumped on the bumper mount during car transport. This will discharge your Blinky's battery. A cumbersome workaround is to give Blinky extra attention between rides. The big problem with the Planet Bike Blinky is that it falls off my bike when attached to a seatpost mounted carry bag. The clip just isn't tight enough. I often do 40-mile rides on the local paved MUP (Multi Purpose Route), with no bumps in the road. The worst hits I've put him through are compensators and bridges. Two weeks ago he nearly fell over on his very first ride, I noticed he was barely holding on to the bike pannier. After that, I learned to check it at every stop. Driving off the bridge yesterday, I heard a rustling. I turned and found Blinky lying on the path. On the plus side, it held together and only had minor scratches from contact with the pavement. Now I'm stuck trying to improvise so Blinky doesn't fall off my bike. The best I can think of so far is to thread a small zip tie through the clip and then attach the Blinky to the pannier through the loop on the zip tie. This is very disappointing considering I bought this particular lightweight model because it comes with a clip to attach to the rear pockets.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Big and bulky
