YOU CANNOT USE THIS WITHOUT SIDE RAILS. I unfortunately waited to open this until the day of our trip. I only have crossbars. I cannot connect the straps through the car because they both have male ends. A user suggested using the other strap meant for the crossbars on the side. It doesn’t come off and if I turn the bag the zipper is in the front and I don’t have anything to strap to the crossbars because I’ll have to use one of their straps to get it through the car. The listing has the bag I received, however the reviewers photos all show a different brand bag that looks identical. I wish I would have caught that before my purchase. Now I either have to modify the bag and hope my sewing is good enough so I can switch out a female end with one of the males or we have to go rent a van which means our plan to leave late at night to avoid traffic is now not going to work. We’re going to be late arriving to our destination because we have to wait to rent a van on a Sunday. I wish we could just fit everything in the car but we knew we couldn’t which is why we bought this. I usually just return products and don’t write bad reviews, but this has caused so many issues and I don’t want someone else to go through the same. If you go ahead and get it make sure you have side rails and crossbars.
