Plastic window coverings can help reduce drafts and heat loss from single glazed windows/doors. The tape they provide works well around windows. For something as large as a sliding glass door, especially when installing plastic on the outside, I prefer 2 inch carpet tape. This year I built a wood frame around a sliding glass door and attached plastic to it. Go over it with a heat gun or hair dryer to make it shrink. It also removes wrinkles and makes the plastic more transparent. I've bought this several times over the years. Good solution until you get a new window or sliding glass door.
