The unit was well packaged but like most things made in China you never use the batteries that come with the product. Use a Duracells or other USA-made battery, preferably lithium-ion. I used the batteries that came with it first to make sure the device worked. Then I switched to new Duracell, didn't help. Found the + and - contacts in the bracket to be loose and it was a pain getting the batteries to make good contact. I put the old batteries in and everything worked. I started swapping out old batteries for new ones and found which connection wasn't making good contact. Played with contacts and finally earned. I turned the device off and on several times and it worked great. It will hurt if I have to replace them again, but the overall quality and ease of use make it worth it.
