The device is basically as advertised. The flash isn't as bright as one might expect given its size. The strobe function on my phone is brighter. The frequency seems to be stable. The display is easy to read, but not backlit. One complaint (big one for me) is the AUTO STOP FLASHING feature (the last item listed in the manual). According to the manual, "The flash stops flashing about 5 minutes after it is turned on to extend the life of the flash. To make it work again you have to (sic) turn off the flash and turn it on again. " For most this is not a problem. However, I would like to continuously monitor something at 40 Hz (2400 flashes per minute) for an hour every day. The lamp is rated for 100 million flashes (plus a spare is included in this one In this case, the lamp should last around 700 hours (equivalent to 2 years of my usage) before I need to replace it, which means my unit takes 4 minutes and 45 seconds to turn off its worth to me.
