My daughter cannot/does not want to sleep on a mattress that is too hard, so I wanted to find a mattress that was soft enough for her. The first night we tried a side that was too hard for her liking. We flipped it over and she went to bed with no problem. I looked at different types of mattresses in stores but they all turned out to be the same (too hard). I have never seen a toddler mattress with different firmness on each side. I'm glad we found it and she seems very happy. This mattress woke her up at night and needed help to go back to sleep because she was uncomfortable. It made sleep and bedtime MUCH better. The only downside is that it's not waterproof, which isn't a big issue for us.
