Review on Engage Your Child'S Curiosity With The 5 In 1 STEM Kit - The Perfect Educational Building Toy For 8-12 Year Old Boys And Girls by Maurice Hurd

Hard to assemble: my feedback

I liked the idea of this kit and based on other reviews, it sounded easy to put together. I bought these for my 7 year old nephew thinking with a little help he could out them together. We commonly do other STEM kits and build stuff and he's also a farm kid always running around the shop with tools helping his dad build stuff on actual tractors. He loves building stuff and is mechanically gifted already. That said, it took myself 28 yo auntie and 58 grandma to put this thing together and it wasn't easy, slightly confusing and my nephew couldn't even help, it was super small components so he got bored with how long the process was taking. We put the tank together, it took awhile, didn't work so we unassembled, fixed it and put it back together. It is very cute once together and my nephew then enjoyed playing with it but I honestly don't believe some of the reviews of kids putting this together alone. In all fairness I do think their box specifies an older age range of kids but it was difficult for two adults too so it's cute but if you ain't planning on a long project or helping your kid you should pick something else. I also liked it came w multiple projects but after how long the first one took we've never attempted the others nor has my nephew asked or shown interest.

Pros
  • Supports independent play and exploration
Cons
  • May not provide opportunities for children to relate STEM concepts to their personal interests or experiences
