failed after 50 locks

I bought this product to put on my beach condo door, not really to give people keys to open it, just code. It installed well, worked well (except the outer panel wouldn't stay on) but after 6 months of very little use I tried to unlock it and it didn't work. won't unlock at the exact wrong time as if there is a right or wrong time not to unlock. Luckily my key was kept in a hidden place nearby. Tried unlocking multiple times with the same code. It locked but wouldn't unlock, so I changed the batteries on the way to the airport. Then it started beeping, I had 4 AA gold batteries and after about 50 unlocks it didn't work. NOT GOOD. So I'm stuck in Florida with 1 key to give away, a huge hassle.
