Precise and reliable - after the right setting!

Last year I bought a Farm Innovators model TC-3 cold weather thermal cube with outlet thermostat control - incl at 35°/off at 45° and although it seemed to work I wasn't happy. (See review there.) I've only had 2 nights below freezing since I've had Inkbird, but it worked great for those 2 nights - once I figured out how to set it up. The instructions I found are confusing. They are set to degree C. If, like me, you prefer grade F, you'll need to set that up first, even though it's step 4 in the setup flow chart on page 4. The reason is, as you'll learn on page 7, is that if you change it, everything else reverts to the factory defaults. I didn't use the time settings. I just wanted him to turn on the lights (old fashioned ones that get hot) in my well pump room every time the temperature drops to 34° and turn them off at 36°. So I set stage 1 "Temperature setpoint 1" to 34° and stage 2 "Heating differential value 1" to 2°. I went out in the cold to see how it worked but it wouldn't turn on. Also, the reading didn't match a remote thermometer I can take around the house, so I changed step 3 of the temperature calibration to -2.5°. I don't know which one is correct. I just wanted it to turn on when the temperature in the pump room, which I could read in a warm house, is 34°. I finally figured out that Step 1 should be "Off" °F, so I set that to 36° and Step 2 to -2°. Now the lights come on at 34° and off at 36°. Ideal!

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • The list will be long.
